"Reinvent yourself." My college coach, Mike Brady, used this line at our team meeting in May. It was a great way to start summer training. This simple phrase allowed us to reset and be excited for what we could create in ourselves. This mantra presented both a choice and excitement. Choose to change and be excited for what you can be in the future.
Coach Brady was speaking to a highly motivated Princeton XC team. Very few coaches across the country are speaking to a group with that type of talent and motivation. As a coach, you have to understand your team and meet them at their level. Some teams require challenge, others a simple schedule. Coach Brady knew his team and presented us with what they needed to have a successful summer. He treated all of us with respect and a care that helped us become better people. Our reinvention was as much about life as it was about running. He knew a better person was a better runner.
So here's to Coach Brady and reinvention.
